A CCTV footage obtained by the police led to the arrest of a suspected loanshark runner, who is believed to be involved in a series of harassment cases. Responding to a harassment report last Wednesday, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division found loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of a HDB block in the Serangoon North Avenue 2 area and retrieved a CCTV footage. It had captured the 52-year-old suspect in the act. Police recognised him as a recalcitrant runner who had been arrested for previous, similar offences. Police tracked the suspect to his whereabouts and arrested him at Woodlands St 13. Cans of paint, black markers, screwdrivers, towels, handphones, a bicycle lock, a bag and a notebook with suspected loansharking records were seized. The suspect will be charged in court on Tuesday. First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment can be fined up to $40,000 or jailed up to three years, or both. They may also be caned between four and nine strokes if property has been damaged, or if persons are hurt. Repeat offenders face fine of up to $40,000 and jail of up to six years. They can also be caned between three and 18 strokes if property was damaged or if someone has been imjured.
