SINGAPORE: A pub owner and his operations manager have been handed jail terms for a range of vice-related offences.

Ang Boon Kwee, 43, was sentenced to 15 months' jail and fined S$42,000 for 16 vice-related charges.

The 16 charges are procuring Filipino prostitutes in late 2011, managing a brothel, living off the earnings of those women from October 2011 to May 2012, and breaching the conditions of the public entertainment licence.

Twenty-seven other charges were taken into consideration.

Court documents stated that Ang was running the Fabulous Hot Models pub at Orchard Tower.

A sting operation in May 2012 revealed that 15 Filipino staff were providing sexual services to customers.

The group of women admitted they were paying the pub management part of their earnings.

Along with Ang, 24-year-old Loh Wen Jun was also dealt with.

She admitted to conspiring with Ang to procure the prostitutes, helping him live off those women's earnings, as well as assisting in managing the brothel.

Loh was given a 10-month jail term for the 12 charges.

A remaining 25 related charges were taken into consideration for sentencing purposes.

In sentencing, district judge Salina Ishak noted Ang had the highest culpability and was in charge of this organised crime.

While the judge noted that Loh also played an important role in the offences, she pointed out the younger offender is less culpable.
