SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 37-year-old man believed to have robbed a provision shop assistant at Blk 53 Telok Blangah Drive.

The arrest was made within six hours after they were informed of the incident at about 4.30pm on Saturday.

The 22-year-old provision shop assistant had reported that the suspect whipped out a knife and demanded him to open the cash register.

The suspect made away with cash of about $250, two packets of cigarettes and a top-up phone card valued at $28.

Police spotted the suspect along Kampong Bahru at about 10.20pm and arrested him.

If convicted of armed robbery, the man faces a jail term of up to 14 years and shall be liable to a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
