SINGAPORE : Police have arrested 10 men, aged between 27 and 40 years, for reproducing and distributing adulterated liquor.
This follows a 19-hour island-wide operation on Tuesday.
Officers also raided several distribution outlets, a storage location and a reproduction factory located at various parts of Singapore - such as Hillview, Bukit Batok, Jurong West, Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon.
Over 3,000 bottles of adulterated liquor which infringed the trademarks of renowned liquor brands, equipment and a van were also seized. The estimated street value of the items seized was over S$94,000.
Five of the suspects will be charged in court on Thursday with offences under the Trade Marks Act.
Investigations on the remaining suspects are on-going.
The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay, said: "Police take a serious view of syndicated piracy and will continue to clamp down on such activities.
"This particular syndicate may even have put the health of the public at risk by adulterating these drinks. Such irresponsible acts will not be condoned and offenders will be taken to task."
Anyone found guilty of selling, distributing or manufacturing infringing articles of any work in which trade mark subsists, may be fined up to S$10,000 per article - up to a maximum of S$100,000 for all items - or jailed up to five years or both.
