Police bust liquor operation islandwide

Adulterated liquor is liquor that has been made impure by the addition of extraneous, improper or inferior ingredients.

Persons found guilty of selling, distributing or manufacturing infringing articles of any work in which trade mark subsists, may be find up to $10,000 per article - up to a maximum $100,000 for all items, or imprisoned for up to 5 years or both.

IN AN islandwide operation on Tuesday, 10 men, aged between 27 and 40, were arrested for their involvement in the reproduction and distribution of adulterated liquor.

Several distribution outlets, a storage location and a reproduction factory located at Hillview, Bukit Batok, Jurong West, Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon were raided over a 19-hour period.

More than 3,000 bottles of adulterated liquor infringing the trademarks of renowned liquor brands, related counterfeiting accessories, reproduction equipment and a motor van were seized.

The estimated value of the items seized is believed to be a total amount exceeding $94,000.

Five of the suspects, aged between 32 and 36, will be charged in court on Thursday for offences under the Trade Marks Act.

Investigations against the remaining five suspects are ongoing.

SINGAPORE : Police have arrested 10 men, aged between 27 and 40 years, for reproducing and distributing adulterated liquor.

This follows a 19-hour island-wide operation on Tuesday.

Officers also raided several distribution outlets, a storage location and a reproduction factory located at various parts of Singapore - such as Hillview, Bukit Batok, Jurong West, Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon.

Over 3,000 bottles of adulterated liquor which infringed the trademarks of renowned liquor brands, equipment and a van were also seized. The estimated street value of the items seized was over S$94,000.

Five of the suspects will be charged in court on Thursday with offences under the Trade Marks Act.

Investigations on the remaining suspects are on-going.

The Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay, said: "Police take a serious view of syndicated piracy and will continue to clamp down on such activities.

"This particular syndicate may even have put the health of the public at risk by adulterating these drinks. Such irresponsible acts will not be condoned and offenders will be taken to task."
