A 47-year-old man has been arrested for suspected involvement in a series of cashcard theft from vehicles at an Hougang housing estate.

Police received several reports lodged by vehicle owners between Jan 1 and 9, who found the side windows of their vehicles smashed and cashcards stolen.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division followed-up on the leads to establish the identity of the suspect.

On Jan 10 at about 2.30am, officers came across a man befitting the image of the suspect obtained from CCTV footages. He was seen behaving suspiciously and was detained.

The suspect had on him a hammer, a glove, glasses, a cap, clothing and a shoe bag containing glass fragments.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man could be responsible for more than 10 cases of theft from vehicle.

The suspect will be charged in court on Jan 11 for Theft from Vehicle. If found guilty, he faces a maximum jail term of three years, or with fine or both.

Police would like to appeal to the public to always secure your vehicle and ensure that the car alarm is in working condition, do not leave valuables in your vehicle and note down the serial number of your cashcards.
