Six weeks for hammer attack
By Elena Chong
A MAN who hit another on the head with a hammer after the latter exposed himself to his girlfriend was sentenced to six weeks' jail on Wednesday. Leo Kim Swee, 41, who was given until Friday to begin his sentence, had earlier admitted to causing hurt to Mr Chandran Moorthi, 24, at Pasir Panjang Road on June 24.
The court heard that Leo's girlfriend, Ms Nancy Ambrose Villarico, 25, a Filipina, was waiting for him outside his home at Pasir Panjang Road at about 2am when Mr Moorthi walked past her and stared at her. When she looked up, she saw him exposing himself and told him to leave.
Shortly, when Leo came and heard about the incident, he became angry and picked up a small hammer from his home. The couple then went to look for the victim on his motorcycle. When they saw him talking to a Gurkha officer outside Currency House, Leo approached the victim who started to walk away.
He caught up with the victim and hit him twice on his head with the hammer. The victim was given outpatient treatment for two wounds on the head. Leo could have been jailed for up to seven years or fined or caned or received any combined sentence.
