would you care or would you reflect on the meaning of what SG's National day is all about in your current situation as an ex-singaporean or quitter?
please share.

No significance left.
I owe my current wealth to Australia, not Singapore.

I can understand why my grandparents never join the Chinese clans (too much politics) or celebrate China's national day when living in Singapore.

9 Aug 2011 is Australia Census Day.

NDay only brings the stupid NDP to my mind.

Another bloody waste of a $50 million dollars, waste of student's time, road congestion, promotion for our paper SAF scholars... all these just so that the PAP can give themselves a pat on the back on the "good" job they have done for the past year and the nice pay increment to their already obscene salary..

and it only serves to remind me the betrayal of ordinary SIngaporeans by the PAP

Don't forget the hours of training put in by NSmen for guard of honor, supporting contingents, filling the goody bags and doing the mop up.

To make a BIG political propaganda statement and BIGGER bootcamp to instill pride in PAP Singapore. The rally is even better - usually begins with economy and end with buck up, need to work harder.

Taking away precious training time for our servicemen to plan & prepare for NDP. Once the current wayang is over, the whatever commitee will start planning again in Oct, to form the next NDP commitee.

Isn't there better things for our officers in SAF to do than planning NDP..??

Not really - i didn't even realised it was National day until gathering with some Sporean friends few days later. To me, the national day celebrattions were all very fake and commercialised - even when i was in sg, it's the FTs more interested in the parade and firewalls more than Sporeans.

Having said that, we'll all still Sporeans by roots whether we'll quiters or not. It's hard for other nationalities to understand our 'distinct' culture but as a small community we sure have what it takes to survive in this country. During gathering we still whinged about the policies in sg, competing with FTs etc. etc. the only topic that gets everyone excited - it's the fond memory of the sporean food..

I use to watch the NDP as a child. I still remember NDP songs like "Count on me", "We are Singapore" etc. Over the years, I've come to realised this is a big propaganda stage by the PAP. Notice I said PAP, but not Singapore. This is akin to the Chines government during 1st October. It is merely a show for the PAP. In fact, the Chinese National Day parade is grander and has more interesting things to see. I stop watching it around my 20s. The national day in Australia is very different, we celebrate not by parades or show or "force", but by welcoming new citizens to the country. This is also the day where a lot of citizenship ceremony are held. Its a very relaxing, celebratory environment compared to NDP. This is what I find the most difference between here and there. Over here, people genuinely believe they are a nation and would continue to do so. While in Singapore the NDP is something for the "elites".
