NASA to Release, Discuss Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Report

NASA will host a media briefing at 10 a.m. EDT on Thursday, Sept. 14, at the agency’s headquarters in Washington to discuss the findings from an unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) independent study team it commissioned in 2022.
About 30 minutes before the briefing, the agency will publish the team’s full report online, which aims to inform NASA on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP. The report is not a review or assessment of previous unidentifiable observations.
NASA defines UAP as observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena from a scientific perspective. There are currently a limited number of high-quality observations of UAP, which make it impossible to draw firm scientific conclusions about their nature.
The briefing will stream live on NASA Television, the NASA app, and the agency’s website at:

The UAP independent study team is a counsel of 16 community experts across diverse areas on matters relevant to potential methods of study for unidentified anomalous phenomena. NASA commissioned the study to examine UAP from a scientific perspective and create a roadmap for how to use data and the tools of science to move our understanding of UAP forward.

Nasa has released the first findings from its report into unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UFOs.
The space agency commissioned the study in response to a variety of reports of what appear to be unexplained and unknown craft, reported by US pilots and others.
It says that unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP, are defined as “observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified as aircraft or known natural phenomena from a scientific perspective”. It has noted that there are very few high-quality observations of the phenomena, which makes them difficult to understand scientifically.
The first report will “inform NASA on what possible data could be collected in the future to shed light on the nature and origin of UAP”, it said in its announcement. “The report is not a review or assessment of previous unidentifiable observations.”
The media briefing on the report will begin at 10am local eastern time, or 3pm in the UK. The report will be published about half an hour before, Nasa said.

Bill Nelson says Nasa has appointed a director for UAP research, a brand new post for the US space agency.
“The top takeaway from the study is that there’s a lot more to learn,” he says, adding that the study did not find any evidence of any UAP having an extraterrestrial origin.
“But we don’t know what these UAP are. That’s why I’m announcing that Nasa has appointed a Nasa director of UAP research. They are being tasked with developing and overseeing the implementation of Nasa’s vision for UAP research.”

But I asked some of our scientists: What is the mathematical probability that there is life out there in the universe? And if you calculate in billions of stars in billions of galaxies that there’s replicated in what I just said, another stony planet, the answer was ‘at least a trillion’. That’s from our scientists.”

UAP report urges Nasa to be more proactive in hunting UFOs​

The report concludes that Nasa needs to use more sophisticated data analysis techniques, including AI and machine learning, in order to be more robust and systematic when searching for UAPs.

At present, the detection of UAP is often serendipitous, captured by sensors that were not designed or calibrated for this purpose, and which lack comprehensive metadata. Coupled with incomplete data archiving and curation, this means that the origin of numerous UAP remain uncertain. The importance of detecting UAP with multiple, well-calibrated sensors is thus paramount, and accordingly we recommend that Nasa leverage its considerable expertise in this domain to potentially utilize multispectral or hyperspectral data as part of a rigorous data acquisition campaign.

Nasa's UFO report: What we learned from UAP study​

A Nasa probe into hundreds of UFO sightings found there was no evidence aliens were behind the unexplained phenomena, but the space agency also could not rule out that possibility.

If the truth is out there, this long-awaited report offers no conclusive evidence.

But it did outline how Nasa will investigate what it calls UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) with improved technology and artificial intelligence.

Nasa administrator Bill Nelson said the US space agency will not only take the lead in researching possible UAP incidents, but will share data with more transparency.
The report is 36 pages of quite technical and scientific observations, so here are some of the key takeaways.

There's no proof aliens exist, but they might​

The very last page of the report said "there is no reason to conclude" that extra-terrestrial sources are behind the hundreds of UAP sightings Nasa has investigated.
"However... those objects must have travelled through our solar system to get here," the report said.
Although the report did not conclude extra-terrestrial life exists, Nasa didn't deny the possibility of "potential unknown alien technology operating in Earth's atmosphere".

Limited amount of UAP data​

Nicola Fox, the associate administrator for Nasa's Science Mission Directorate, said: "UAP are one of our planet's greatest mysteries" and that is mainly because of the lack of high quality data.
Despite numerous reported UAP sightings, Ms Fox said there typically isn't enough data that "can be used to make definitive scientific conclusions about the nature and origin of UAP".
Ms Fox announced that Nasa has appointed a new director of UAP research to "establish a robust database for the evaluation of future data".
The director will use AI and machine learning in the data gathering and analysis process.

BBC reporter Sam Cabral asked the Nasa panel about a series of photographs of purported extra-terrestrials that were presented to Mexican authorities earlier this week.
A self-proclaimed UFO expert, Jaime Maussan, brought to a congressional hearing what he presented as two ancient "non-human" alien corpses. He claimed the bodies had been found in Cusco, Peru, in 2017 and that radiocarbon testing dated the objects to be up to 1,800 years old.
The authenticity of the specimens has been greeted by heavy scepticism in scientific circles, and Mr Maussan himself has previously made claims of extra-terrestrial life that were debunked.
Nasa scientist Dr David Spergel told the BBC: "Make samples available to the world scientific community and we'll see what's there."

Identity of new UFO boss remains a mystery because of threats​

There will be a new Nasa director of UAP research - but their identity remains a mystery.
Details of the role and how much they will be paid were left curiously vague during Thursday's briefing, considering Nasa has pledged to be more transparent with its UAP research.
One reason for this could be to protect the new director from any potential public harassment.
Dr Daniel Evans, Nasa's Assistant Deputy Associate Administrator for Research, said members of the UAP research panel had received "actual threats".
He said Nasa takes the security and safety of the team "extremely seriously" and that the threats had played a role in the decision not to publish the name of the UAP research director.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are "essential tools" for identifying UAPs, the report said.
The public is also considered a "critical aspect of understanding UAP".
Nasa, which has said one of its biggest challenges of better understanding and identifying UAPs is a lack of data, aims to plug that gap through crowdsourcing techniques.
This includes "open-source smartphone-based apps" and other smartphone metadata from "multiple citizen observers worldwide".
There is currently no standardised system for aggregating and organising civilian UAP reports, the report said, "resulting in sparse and incomplete data".

Mexican doctors have found “no evidence of any assembly or manipulation of the skulls” of the so-called “non-human being” remains that were presented to Mexico’s congress last week — seemingly proving the remains were not human-made.

The scientists conducted a number of tests on the two specimens at the Noor Clinic on Monday, and livestreamed the entire procedure on Jaime Maussan’s YouTube channel.

In the end, José Zalce Benitez, the director of the Health Sciences Research Institute in the secretary of the Mexican navy’s office, said the studies proved the alleged aliens belonged to a single skeleton and were not assembled with human objects.

He also said his team found that one “was alive, was intact, was biological and was in gestation,” pointing to large lumps inside the alleged ET’s abdomen — which he suggested could be eggs.

“I can affirm that these bodies have no relation to human beings,” he previously claimed.

The pair — which were allegedly unearthed in Cusco, Peru, in 2017 — have elongated heads with three fingers on each hand.

Maussan said they had strong, light bones and no teeth, and had implants of cadmium and osmium — which is one of the scarcest elements on Earth.

Almost one-third of their DNA is “unknown,” he testified, claiming the beings are not part of “our terrestrial evolution.”

“These specimens are not part of our evolutionary history of Earth,” Massaun told Mexican government officials and representatives from the US.

“They are not beings recovered from a UFO crash. Instead, they were found in diatom (algae) mines and subsequently became fossilized.”

“This is the first time it (extraterrestrial life) is presented in such a form and I think there is a clear demonstration that we are dealing with non-human specimens that are not related to any other species in our world,” Maussan, a long-time UFO enthusiast, concluded.

For years, academics, archaeologists and scientists have said that mummified remains that UFO enthusiasts claim are aliens are generally just modified human bodies.

Others, especially the smaller ones — like those that were presented in Mexico — are assembled with an amalgamation of animal and human bones.
