SINGAPORE - A 32-year-old man has been arrested for a case of outrage of modesty on board a bus.

He allegedly molested a 14-year-old female victim yesterday at about 7.30pm.

The girl was on board a double-decker bus travelling from Sengkang towards Woodlands when she was molested by the suspect. The victim shouted at the suspect, attracting the attention of other passengers who came forward to assist in detaining the suspect.

The passenger service centre at the bus interchange was alerted and the police were called. Police officers placed the suspect under arrest along Woodlands Avenue 2.

The subject will be charged in Court on Jan 14, 2014 for the offence of Outrage of Modesty. The crime is punishable with a jail term of up to two years, a fine and caning.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim, commended the victim for being courageous in raising the alarm, as well as the public spiritedness of bus passengers who came forward to assist the victim.

He added that the police will take firm action to ensure that these culprits are swiftly brought to justice.
