Marriage certs and student visa pop up at raid
GEORGE TOWN: Six foreign women produced documents stating they are married to local men to evade arrest during an anti-vice raid at an entertainment outlet in Gurney Drive. There were also three others who claimed to be students of a local college here.
One of them managed to produce her student visa while two others claimed their applications for student visa were still pending. The police, however, did not buy their stories and brought them back to George Town police district headquarters for further investigation.

They were among 42 foreign women who were busy entertaining customers when police stormed the place at 10.45pm on Friday. It is learnt that police would check the authenticity of the marriage documents, the student visa and other documents before handing the foreigners over to the Immigration Department.
The 35 Chinese nationals, five Vietnamese, a Thai and an Indonesian ran helter-skelter when police, led by Bukit Aman’s Asst Supt Khairil Anuar Rosli, raided the premises. However, none of them managed to escape as police had the area cordoned off.
ASP Khairil Anuar said they also picked up the outlet’s general manager and 15 workers to facilitate investigations. Some 45 customers, including a few foreigners, were also told to undergo urine tests. “We noticed that each room had a device to warn the foreign women of a raid. When we stormed in, many of them were taking off their heels to run,” he said.
