Man jailed 9 weeks for plan to steal cough syrup
SINGAPORE: A man was on Monday jailed nine weeks by a district court for his role in trying to break into a clinic at Bishan Street 24.
The court heard that Mohamad Faishah Majid, 33, was part of a group that planned to steal cough syrup from the clinic and later sell the syrup illegally for profit.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Tang Shangjun told the court that Mohamad Faishah had been assigned the driver on the night of the incident on September 22 last year.
He had driven his accomplices to the clinic and waited for them while they tried to break into the place.
The break-in was unsuccessful -- they managed to break the lock, but found the doorway blocked by items stored behind the door.
In court, Mohamad Faishah's lawyer said his client had the least culpability and he was truly remorseful about what he had done.
Two of his accomplices have been dealt with.
Mohamad Faishah's wife, a former employee of the clinic, has also been arrested.
She will be dealt with at a later date as she is expecting the couple's sixth child. She is scheduled to be back in court in October after she delivers the baby.
Mohamad Faishah could have been jailed up to three years and fined. - CNA/nd
