Man in ICU after beating

A MAN is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of Changi General Hospital after a fight early Sunday morning. He has been unconscious since the beating. Doctors have had to remove his damaged gall bladder and also operate on his pancreas which was ruptured. Safety officer Nico Ramon, 36, arrived at a party organised by his uncle at a chalet in Changi, just after midnight. As he did not know anyone there aside from his uncle, aunt and two cousins, he was taken on a round of introductions to the group of about 10 youths known to his uncle.
His younger brother, Mr Joshua Kannan, 34, speaking with The Straits Times at the hospital yesterday, said that it all started when Mr Ramon apparently said: 'That's cool, man. It's nice to meet you,' during the introductions. Someone at the party misheard the word 'cool' as an expletive and a confrontation took place. Shortly after the incident, Mr Ramon called Mr Kannan, who was at his brother's Henderson Road flat at the time of the incident, telling him that there had been a misunderstanding but the issue had been 'resolved'.
