Man held for bribery bid

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A 71 YEAR-OLD man has been arrested for trying to bribe a traffic policeman. At about 12.30pm on Monday, Traffic Policeman Corporal Roslan was despatched to attend to an accident at Petir Road. On arrival, he noted a car had crashed into a bollard, but could not find the driver or any injured person.

While he was recording the facts in his logsheet, a man approached him and admitted that he was the driver of the car. Thinking that Corporal Roslan was going to issue him a ticket, the driver asked the cop to give him a 'chance'. The driver then took out three $10 notes and placed them on the officer's motorcycle, saying they were 'coffee money' for the officer in return for letting him off.

Corporal Roslan refused the bribe and arrested the driver. The case has since been referred to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau. Said Assistant Commissioner Christopher Ng, Commander of Traffic Police: "I am proud to see the high level of integrity displayed by Corporal Roslan. His actions have certainly exemplified what the SPF stands for."
