A SECURITY guard who caused a near accident along an expressway when he arm-locked a cabby was sentenced to six weeks' jail on Tuesday. But Sukhdew Singh, 34, is appealing against the sentence. He had admitted to causing hurt to Mr Cha Ban Koon, 54, by using his left forearm to strangle him along Bukit Timah-Kranji Expressway on Sept 23, 2008. Deputy Public Prosecutor Lynda Lee said Mr Cha was taking Sukhdew home to Choa Chu Kang that evening when they had a dispute over the cab fare payment. They decided to go to a police station to resolve the matter. The victim decided to go to the one in Kandang Kerbau as he was familiar with it but Sukhdew had the station in Choa Chu Kang area in mind. By then, the victim was on an expressway. Sukhdew then wrapped his left forearm around the victim's neck. The victim bit the passenger on the forearm and lost control of the taxi. A lorry behind almost hit the taxi as a result. Both the taxi and lorry stopped at the shoulder of BKE and police were called. Sukhdew could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for causing hurt.
