A man was arrested on Monday (2 July) after he threw a flower pot at the police.

The incident happened at around 10am at the fifth-floor corridor of block 93 in Bedok North Ave 4, Lianhe Wanbao reported.

When the reporter arrived at the scene, there were shattered flower pots and soil littering the corridor. A neighbour, who was not named, said the man had returned home in the morning and suddenly, he took off his top, kneeled in front of the lift with his head on the floor, and started screaming.

The neighbour said the man’s mother came back around half an hour later and dragged him back to their flat. Shortly after, the man dashed through the door angrily and began smashing flower pots along the corridor. He even flung two down the block.

Concerned neighbours called the police and eight officers arrived at the scene. When the man saw the police, he allegedly threw a flower pot at them. After a two-hour tussle, the police finally subdued the man. They handcuffed him and tied his legs with cable ties before carrying him back to the station.

As her son raged, the mother reportedly locked the gate to prevent him from running back home to take a knife to hurt himself. Neighbours said that the man is normally quiet and seldom interact with them, although one said he does smile and greet people sometimes.

He reportedly leaves home every day at around 8pm and returns around 10am the next day. He has been living in the flat with his mother and elder brother and sister for around seven years, the neighbours said.
Police said the man was arrested for reckless behaviour and they are investigating the case.
