SINGAPORE: A sales executive has been fined S$3,000 for disturbing public peace.

25-year-old Muhammad Hanis Kamis was on Wednesday ordered to pay the fine for fighting with 29-year-old Koh Wei Loon in September 2012.

At that time, Muhammad Hanis was driving his father and friend out for supper in a van.

After driving out from a multi-storey carpark in Hougang Ave 8, he stopped the van before making a right-turn. Then, Koh sounded his horn as he was driving behind Muhammad Hanis.

Subsequently, the two men turned right on to Hougang Ave 8 and confronted each other.

A fight broke out and Muhammad Hanis' father tried to stop the altercation by grabbing Koh's neck. The accused continued punching Koh.

The fight stopped only after the trio fell to the ground.

In pleading for leniency, the accused said he did not want to prolong the case, which has affected his life as well as his family.

In sentencing, District Judge Siva Shanmugam said he considered Muhammad Hanis' clean record and remorse and ordered him to pay a fine.

Koh, who has been charged, intends to claim trial.

The maximum punishment for committing affray is a one-year jail term and a S$5,000 fine. - CNA/ac
