Police arrested a man who charged into a neighbourhood police post wielding a knife, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The incident happened at around 7:30pm on 26 July, reported Lianhe Wanbao. A 27-year-old man charged into the police post at Jalan Bahagia and held a knife up to the police officers. The officers quickly took out their taser guns and asked the man to drop his weapon.

The sudden drama attracted many passer-bys who crowded outside the police post to watch the event unfold. One of the officers on duty called for emergency reinforcements from police headquarters, reported the Chinese daily.

Two officers from HQ quickly arrived at the police post to help. One of them was carrying a shield while the other pointed a taser gun at the man. In spite of all this, the man did not immediately comply with the officers’ requests and continued the standoff with them. After three minutes, he finally dropped his knife.

According to the newspaper, the man tried to resist arrest. After a violent struggle, he was eventually restrained by several officers and two members of the public.

One of these courageous members of the public was a 59-year-old cleaner, known only as Mr Teo. When interviewed by Lianhe Wanbao, he said: “I tried to hold him, but he was too strong.”

Mr Teo was allegedly kicked twice in the stomach by the man during the struggle.

The violent man has been charged with criminal intimidation.
