In a desperate effort to "prove" that he did not borrow money from loan sharks, Mr Soh Meng Chuan, 52, has resorted to placing newspaper advertisements.
In the ads, which appeared in Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao yesterday, Mr Soh, a contractor, appeared to be addressing the Ah Longs.
He claimed he had lost his IC in May last year and that anyone who had a "customer" with the same name as his should write to him to inform him.
In the ad, Mr Soh also described his facial features, in the hope that the loan sharks would think twice before lending money to someone who produced the IC he had misplaced.
For the last three months, he has been hounded by Ah Longs to repay money he claimed he did not borrow.
