SINGAPORE: Police arrested a 53-year-old man on December 31, 2013, in connection with the death of 37-year-old Dexmon Chua YiZhi.

The suspect on Wednesday led police to the body of Mr Chua at Lim Chu Kang Road, near Sungei Gedong Camp.

Police had received a missing person report on December 29, 2013, stating that Mr Chua had yet to return since he left home the previous evening.

On December 30, a police news release was issued appealing for information on the whereabouts of Mr Chua, who was last seen at an eatery along Cheong Chin Nam Road on December 28 at about 9.44pm.

A police spokesman said officers from the Jurong Police Division worked with officers from the Criminal Investigation Division to conduct investigative probe and enquiries as there were suspicious circumstances relating to the case.

Police then managed to established the identity of the 53-year-old suspect who was subsequently arrested.

The suspect will be charged in court on January 2 for murder.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations & Intelligence) and concurrent Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Hoong Wee Teck said in a statement on Wednesday: "The officers from Jurong Police Division had displayed good investigative acumen, to sense the suspicious circumstances surrounding the missing person report at the onset of their investigations.

"Without any delay, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department were called in to take over the investigation leading to the discovery of this serious crime.

"I wish to commend all the officers involved for their perseverance, dedication and hard work resulting in the successful arrest of the suspect within 48 hours of the report lodged." - CNA/gn
