Man accused of snatch theft

A 22-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly snatched a girl's smartphone on Sunday was charged in court on Monday.

Choo Cher Hou is accused of forcefully snatching the $310 phone from the 17-year-old's hand at a block of flats in Yishun Central at around midnight on Sunday.

He was arrested within 12 hours of the incident near Yishun Street 61 by officers from the Ang Mo Kio police division.

His case has been adjourned till May 9.

The maximum penalty for snatch theft is seven years' jail and caning.
