What I heard was that there was an opposition party who was planning to use this as a major campaign issue. The idea was the bring it as one of the reasons to show how the PAP MPs were doing a poor job at the local level. Somehow the PAP caught wind of it and started a massive anti vice campaign.

You are right about GL and fake Viagra. Majority of GL patrons are our hawker center Ah Bengs. Club Ratchada another Ah Beng joint at Carinhill Place was raided last Thurs night (wee hrs of Fri if you will) and about 60 hos were arrested by vice.
