<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> OVER a period of 3 1/2 years, the managing director of a cleaning firm, V-Teb Services, inflated the Good and Services Tax (GST) he paid on supplies and underdeclared the GST he collected from the firm's customers.
He then fraudulently collected nearly $327,840 in refunds from the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras). On Friday, a district court jailed Tang Ee Boon, 32, for a year and ordered him to pay a penalty of $983,500, which is three times the amount he cheated Iras between January 2004 and June 2007.

He could be jailed up to seven years on each of the 14 charges he pleaded guilty to. In a separate case, warehousing and logistics company Alphalog, and its finance manager Foo Tiew Heng, 64, were charged for allegedly underdeclaring a total of $1,600,000 in income in the last two years to evade tax. This matter will come before the court next on June 17.

SINGAPORE : The managing director of V-Teb Services, a cleaning and maintenance services company, has been jailed for 12 months for making inflated and false claims of GST refunds.

Tang Ee Boon was also fined some $984,000 by the Court.

That is three times the amount of GST undercharged.

He made the false claims between January 2004 and June 2007.

Tan faced 21 charges in all.

He pleaded guilty to 14 and agreed to have the remaining seven charges taken into consideration. - CNA/jy
