Police have arrested a 22-year-old male Chinese for suspected involvement in Housebreaking and Theft by Day at a residential block along Woodlands Ave 6.
On 7 December 2012 at about 8pm , the house occupant returned home to find the living room window grille dislodged from the rail. The unit was ransacked and valuables amounting to $4000 was stolen.
Upon receiving the report, officers from Jurong Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries to solve the case. Through meticulous follow up investigation, the identity and whereabouts of the suspect was established. The suspect was eventually arrested at his residence in Woodlands Circle on 9 January 2013 at about 12 midnight .
The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 January 2013 for Housebreaking and Theft by Day under Section 454 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.
Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim commended his officers for their high level of commitment in working tirelessly resulting in the apprehension of the suspect. He also advises home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures to prevent break-ins into their homes:
Make sure that your main doors and windows are properly secured with strong grilles and good quality locks;
Do not leave large amounts of cash in your home. All cash, jewelleries and valuable items should be kept in a bank or in a good quality safe that is anchored to the wall/floor to prevent the safe from being carted away; &
Consider in stalling a burglar alarm system.
