Four Indonesian women duped by ‘magistrate’

KUALA LUMPUR: A soft-spoken man claiming to be a magistrate cheated four Indonesian women of their jewellery, mobile phones and cash. The man, whom the four Indonesians claimed “looked like a transvestite,” had earlier asked them to clean his house and drove them to the Jalan Duta court complex here yesterday in his luxury car.

According to the four victims, the man wore a tag with the name “Tuan Anzil” and was neatly dressed like a court official. The man asked the four victims to get down from his luxury car on the pretext of looking for a parking space before driving off with their belongings.

The four victims - lontong seller Lamsi Kamsil, 41, pisang goreng seller Terni Nato, 42, thosai seller Surawiya Umar, 42, and unemployed Ayudia Isma, 32, only realised that they had been duped after he did not return after 15 minutes.

Lamsi said she was selling lontong at Teratai Mewah market in Gombak at 11.30am when she was approached by the man looking for a cleaner. “He asked me to find four Indonesian friends to clean his house,” she told reporters outside the court complex.

“He picked us up at about 1.30pm and asked us to put all our jewellery, mobile phones and cash inside his car before dropping us outside the court complex,” she said.

Jalan Duta security guard Mohd Rusli Mohd Ali, 43, said he saw the four women at 2.15pm and advised them to lodge a police report as this was the second such incident. “A similar incident occured last week when two Indonesian women were cheated,” he said.

“The man claimed to have worked as a policeman for a year before becoming a magistrate. “He wore a black jacket with a government logo,” Mohd Rusli added.
