Fine, driving ban for student
<!-- by line --> By Elena Chong
A WOMAN who drove without a licence and beat the red light was fined a total of $1,900 and banned from driving for 12 months on Monday. Evangeline Tay Su Ann, 21, a student had admitted to driving a car along Lornie Road on Jan 22, 2008 when she had no valid driving licence; driving without insurance coverage; and beating the red traffic light at the siganlised T-junction of Lornie Road by Sime Road. A charge of driving the car without the owner's consent was considered during her sentencing. She was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for furnishing misleading information that Leung Man Kwan was the driver of the car that night. Leung, 34, a property agent, is out on $10,000 bail pending her appeal against her three-month sentence for perverting the course of justice by taking the rap on Tay's behalf for failing to conform to the traffic red light signal.
