A MAN who caused the death of his attendant while reversing a lorry at a carpark driveway was fined $6,000 and banned from driving all vehicles for four years on Monday. Neo Yong Beng, 24, then a lorry driver, admitted to causing the death of Mr Neo Hui Yong, 23, who was guiding him in reversing the vehicle behind Block 11 Dempsey Road on Aug 15 last year. The court heard that the two men were collecting glass bottles from the food and beverage outlets off Dempsey Road when the accident occurred. When Neo first started reversing, he could see the victim in the left view mirror of the lorry, but lost sight of him later and assumed that the victim was not directly behind the lorry. He stopped reversing when he heard someone shout at him. The court heard that after Mr Neo was hit, he was also dragged for a distance of about one metre by its rear left tyre. Neo could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for causing death by doing a negligent act.
