AN ACUPUNCTURIST is on trial for putting up banners showing the picture of terror leader Mas Selamat Kastari on buildings in MacPherson and Toa Payoh without permission of its owners. Zeng Guoyuan, 56, is believed to have erected the first banner with the image of the escaped terrorist with the caption 'Dead' on the wall of a shop in Tai Thong Crescent in MacPherson without the owner's consent on March 20 last year - about a month after the escape of the Jemaah Islamiyah militant. Then on Dec 22, he is alleged to have put up a banner with Mas Selamat's picture in front of a shop in Block 69 Lorong 4 Toa Payoh. The banner was taken down that same day but a week later Zeng is said to have put up a giant picture of the charge sheet issued to him by the police. The former millionaire acupuncturist, who stood as a candidate for the Workers' Party in the 1991 elections, is also charged with failing to turn up at police stations on three occasions to assist in investigations. These charges were stood down. Zeng, who has no lawyer, denies putting up the banners. The trial continues.
