Ex-manager on graft charges

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> A FORMER operations manager was charged in court on Friday with corruptly getting and trying to get bribes in the form of loans totalling $5,000 from four residents of a half-way house. Supramaniam Arujunan, 61, was working at The Ashram, a half-way house operated by the Hindu Endowment Board, when he allegedly obtained two loans of $500 each, and another $1,000 loan from residents in return for not showing disfavour during their stay. He is also accused of trying to get a $3,000 loan from a fourth resident on June 13, 2007. He is out on $10,000 bail. A pre-trial conference has been set for May 6. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years on each charge.
