Eatery owner fined S$4,000 for selling alcohol without valid licence

SINGAPORE: The owner of an eatery near Little India was fined S$4,000 after he sold alcohol without a valid licence.
Tan Suan Lee, 44, sold beer on December 21 at about 9.30pm at Prata City, along Jalan Besar.
The shop falls within the designated zone with stricter alcohol regulations, imposed after the Little India on December 8.
Tan, who was not represented, pleaded for leniency in mitigation.
Citing the sentences of previous cases, Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Yinbing pressed for a fine beyond the benchmark of S$1,000.
This is because Tan had been selling alcohol without a licence for about one and a half years.
In addition, Ms Lim said Tan sold alcohol on December 21 -- when the alcohol restrictions in Little India were in place.
The maximum fine for selling alchohol without a valid licence is S$5,000. - CNA/ec
