A DRIVING instructor was sentenced to nine months' jail on Tuesday on three counts of molesting a student and also insulting her modesty. Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, 52, was convicted of the four charges by District Judge Hamidah Ibrahim after a three-day trial. But he intends to appeal. He is out on $15,000 bail, pending the appeal.
During the trial, the court heard that the victim was having a fifth and final driving lesson with Aziz on Dec 19 last year around Ubi estate when he molested her. The 18-year-old polytechnic student was angry and shocked when he uttered something inappropriate to insult her modesty. When she stopped at a red traffic light signal, she said he took her hand off the steering wheel and placed it on his own thigh.
He then placed his hand on top of hers, and asked her to 'be my scandal'. She rejected him. He again molested her at another red traffic light junction, and towards the end of the lesson by touching her breast. Aziz could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined for each count of outrage of modesty. For insulting modesty, the maximum punishment is a year's jail and a fine.
