DJ jailed over threat to kill

ARMED with three knives, a disc jockey threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend in September last year. Balasubramaniam Thevathas, 26, did not carry out the threat but punched and kicked her instead. In a district court on Thursday, he pleaded guilty to threatening and assaulting Ms Anitta Babyanna Menon, 23, and was jailed for nine months. Police investigations revealed that Balasubramaniam and his current girlfriend Lee Lazaroo Anna Sapphira, 17, went to the Yew Mei Green Condominium in Choa Chu Kang at 7am on Sept 18. Balasubramaniam threatened Ms Menon with a kitchen knife and two steak knives. He told her: 'You are going to die today. Come, you can choose which knife you want.' He could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined or caned.
