Council of Churches condemns Muhyiddin’s ‘shocking’ anti-Christian remarks
Noel AchariamUpdated 2 hours ago · Published on 18 Nov 2022 10:55AMTHE Council of Churches Malaysia (CCM) is shocked by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin accusing Christians of being in concert with a group of Jews to promote Christianity and christianise Malaysia.
CCM general secretary Jonathan Jesudas said Muhyiddin’s statement is untrue and irresponsible, particularly from a politician of his standing.
“We live in a multi-religious and multiracial country, and each community must be taken into account when addressing public forums.
“Such statements, carelessly uttered, have a tendency to create racial and religious tension and strife,” he said in a statement.
In a 1min 44s video clip that went viral on social media, Muhyiddin was seen telling member of the audience not to choose Barisan Nasional and not even touch or mark Pakatan Harapan (for tomorrow’s polls).
“It is dangerous. PH is dangerous. Earlier, I read there was video of a group of Jews talking about Malaysia,” the Perikatan Nasional chairman said.
“They were praying about it, so that Malaysia falls into the hands of the opposition, who are sponsoring Jews and Christians.
The former prime minister alleged that Muslims are visiting churches in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, adding that this is “dangerous”.
“Apparently, they have entered Christianity. Is this a christianisation process?”
Muhyiddin also said that he did not think it (Christianity) will spread that fast among Muslims here “but this is their agenda”.
“It is their intention to take over Malaysia to become their colony. It is a long-term strategy.
“Maybe not now, but not long more if we are not wary or careful. It can happen.”
It is unclear when and where this video was recorded.
Meanwhile, Jesudas said the authorities must address the issue.
“It must be addressed by the authorities to ensure that such blatant disregard of the truth and the sensitivities of the various religions are not condoned or repeated.”
