A POLICE officer yesterday admitted to using the force's database as his personal address book to check up on the particulars of people he knew.
Inspector Sylvester Marian, 44, will be sentenced next Tuesday for having used the police computer screening system without authority 10 times over a six- month period in 2005. He could be fined up to $5,000 and jailed for up to two years on each count. His unauthorised use of the database was uncovered by accident. In October 2006, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) received a tip-off that Marian had accepted a bribe. A raid on his office at the Bedok Police Division turned up a computer printout dated Aug 26, 2005, from the Criminal Records Office listing the previous convictions of a Ms Nicolas Liza Choong Shamen, known to be an acquaintance of his.
