Cop jailed for false report
By Elena Chong
A POLICE officer was jailed for three months on Friday for instigating his friend to lie about a colleague as he wanted to teach him a lesson. Shah Rizal Samsir, 30, had earlier admitted to instigating Mohd Alfia Misnan to give false information to the police that he had seen a policeman pocket money after arresting three Bangladeshi illegal immigrants.
Alfia, 29, who has since pleaded guilty but has yet to be sentenced, called police on Dec 25 last year, saying that he had seen a policeman arrest a Bangladeshi, and that his wife had seen the cop putting money into his pocket. The court heard that the victim, Staff Sergeant Ng Keng Lin, 28, attached to Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre, and his colleagues arrested three Bangladeshi illegal immigrants at Lembu Road on Christmas Day.
While at the lock-up, an illegal immigrant reported that money was missing from his wallet. The report was communicated to Rizal, who knew that the victim had arrested the foreigners but did not know if Staff Sgt Ng had stolen money from the Bangladeshi. He called Alfia and asked him to give false information to the police.
