ER Lee Bee Wah has been missing in action for over a week since she made the remarks about ex-Table Tennis coach Liu Guodong’s speech in the media. Liu flew to Singapore in person to ask for clarifications, but Lee refused to meet him and send two STTA officials to con him to sign a document in English absolving her from all liabilities instead.
Lee Bee Wah also seem oblivious to the widespread public fury against her as well as the existence of our online petition calling her to step down as STTA President which has garnered over 4,800 signatures so far.
We were tipped off by a Khatib resident that Lee Bee Wah will be attending a grassroots event on the morning on 24 May 2009 and as such we sent 2 field reporters there with the hope of meeting her and submitting our letter and petition.
The event was a brisk walk cum free breakfast organized by the Nee Soon Zone ‘F’ RC. We were taken aback by the participants, most of whom are silver-haired. We are the only young people in the group. The session began with a warm-up exercise followed by a brisk walk around the estate along Yishun Street 81. Lee Bee Wah only joined us much later.
During our interaction with the Khatib residents, we tried to dig out more information about Lee’s recent activities. They are unwilling to talk about the table tennis saga. Most feign ignorance or simply wave their hands to brush us away.
