Bogus electrician arrested

By Hannah Koh

A MAN suspected of entering and stealing from homes by posing as an electrician, has been arrested. The 51-year-old Malaysian mostly preyed on the elderly, pretending to be an electrician to gain access to their homes. Once inside, the suspect instructed his victims to hold a bamboo pole against a light bulb in the kitchen toilet, supposedly to help with his checks.

He would steal cash and jewellery while the victim was occupied.
In the latest case reported on Oct 26, he made off with about $10,000 cash and $4,000 worth of jewellery from an elderly lady living along Bendemeer Road.

The police established the identity of the suspect after investigation. He was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint and arrested, as he attempted to leave Singapore on Monday afternoon. The man will be charged in court on Wednesday.
