A SINGAPORE Airport Terminal Services (Sats) auxiliary officer was jailed for nine months on Tuesday for misappropriating foreign currencies and an MP3 belonging to a passenger. Zainaal Sardar, 30, was ordered to compensate the victim $2,082 and a colleague, $350. The Sats lance corporal admitted to misappropriating property worth $2,747 from businessman Muhammed Aziz Khan, 55, at a male toilet at Changi Airport Terminal 2, Departure Hall public male toilet on June 14. Mr Aziz, a Singapore permanent resident here, who is chairman of Summit Prakasa Asia, a trading company, left his briefcase on the ledge of the urinal in a toilet. He only realised this 20 minutes later. A Chinese national cleaner found the briefcase and handed it over to Zainaal, who was arrested two months later. Zainaal admitted keeping the foreign currencies and Apple iTouch MP3 player but threw away the briefcase and the other contents into a dustbin at the basement carpark. He sold the MP3 player to a colleague for $350 and used the money to buy an iPhone. He also converted the euros and British pounds and spent the money on entertainment, a trip to Langkawi and to pay off his debts.
