6 loanshark runners held

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> POLICE arrested five men and one woman on Tuesday for suspected involvement in loansharking activities. It all began when officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division, who were conducting anti-crime rounds, checked on a 44-year-old man who was observed to be behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of Yishun housing estate on Monday at about 10.20 pm. The man was found to be in possession of cash amounting to about $2200, a handphone believed to contain debtors' records and stacks of bank transaction receipts. He was arrested. Preliminary investigations indicated that suspect is a debtor-turned-runner and had been assisting the loanshark in his business by collecting repayments from debtors.

In a separate case on Monday, officers were performing anti-loanshark operations in the vicinity of Serangoon Ave 4 at about 11 pm when they spotted three youths loitering suspiciously at the void deck. On checking, one of them was found to be in possession of a marker pen. Further checks revealed that their handphones contained loansharking-related entries. Preliminary investigations indicated that all three suspects were involved in loanshark harassment cases islandwide where loanshark-related graffiti had been scrawled on walls and paint splashed at debtors' units. The trio were nabbed. Following the arrest, the officers managed to establish the identities of another two other accomplices related to the trio arrested earlier. An ambush was immediately carried out in the vicinity of Hougang Central. At about 12.30 am on Tuesday, the two accomplices were arrested. A can of paint, slips of loansharking-related entries, crayons and handphones were seized from their posession as case exhibits. All six suspects will be charged in court on Wednesday.

Are the police only capable of catching the runners ?

These are just small fishes, which are easily replacable.

Can't they dig out more information from them regarding the bigger fish ?
