SINGAPORE: Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department, Central and Tanglin Police Division arrested 46 people in an operation over the weekend which ended Sunday morning.
The operation followed successive enforcement checks at various public entertainment outlets and budget hotels located at Geylang, Balestier, Macpherson, Orchard and Magazine Road.
Police said the 46 were arrested for various criminal offences including illegal employment, immigration offences and vice-related activities.
Licensing breaches were also detected.
Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay commended the officers for their effort and good team work in the successful operation.
He stressed the determination of the Police to keep up the pressure against criminal elements.
"It is imperative that we continue with our enforcement efforts to keep illicit activities at bay. On top of enforcement efforts, (the) Police will continue to work closely with other stakeholders such as the Hotel Licensing Board and Urban Redevelopment Authority to ensure that the hotels and public entertainment outlets are not used for illicit or immoral purposes. Hotel owners who knowingly allow illicit activities within their premises will be taken to task," he said.
