3 suspects arrested for illegal online betting on World Cup matches

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested three people over the last week for illegal online betting on World Cup matches.
One of the suspects is a 47-year-old woman.
She was arrested at a flat in Yishun flat for placing illegal bets online amounting to some S$25,000.
The other two suspects were arrested in Bedok and Ang Mo Kio.
Police also seized cash amounting to 4,000 Malaysian Ringgit, as well as desktop computers, a laptop and a pair of mobile phones in relation to the three cases.
Police have warned that they will act against syndicate operatives and bookmakers, as well as punters who bet illegally.
Anyone caught illegally accepting bets on soccer matches could be fined between S$20,000 and S$200,000 and jailed up to five years.
The punter is liable to either a fine of up to S$5,000, jail of not more than 6 months, or both. - CNA/vm
