POLICE have arrested three men for suspected involvement in loansharking activities. Officers from the Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) spotted the three men behaving suspiciously while conducting patrols in the area of Tampines Bus Interchange on Tuesday.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects, aged between 18 to 23-years, had earlier carried out loanshark harassments by scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls and splashing paint on debtors' units in Tampines, Bukit Panjang, Yishun and Woodlands.
The suspects were arrested for their involvement in loansharking activities and the loanshark-related paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits. All three will be charged in court Thursday for offences under the Moneylender's Act. If convicted, the trio could face a jail term of up to five years, fined up to $50,000, and up to six strokes of the cane.
