25-year-old man to be charged with snatch theft

SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old man who was arrested in relation to a case of snatch theft along Lavender Street will be charged in court on May 31.
He will be charged under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries a maximum punishment of seven years' imprisonment and caning.
The man is suspected of snatching the handphone of a 41-year-old woman on May 29 at about 12.01 am.
He is believed to have approached her from behind and snatched the phone which she was holding in her left hand before fleeing.
The victim sought assistance from a passer-by to call for police.
Police managed to establish the identity of the suspect from CCTV footage.
The suspect was arrested at Marina Bay on May 29 at 11.15pm during a police ambush.
