21-year-old suspect arrested for armed robbery along Pearl Bank

SINGAPORE : Police have arrested a 21-year-old man who is believed to be responsible for a case of robbery that took place on June 2 at Pearl Bank near Outram.
Police said at about 1.15am on June 2, a 26-year-old Chinese woman was walking along Pearl Bank when the suspect suddenly grabbed her from behind and placed a sharp object at the back of her neck.
He allegedly pushed her to the ground and stole her mobile phone and cash of about $400. When the suspect spotted a passer-by, he immediately fled towards the direction of Outram Park MRT station.
The victim was unhurt. Officers from Central Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and intelligence probes and established the identity of the suspect. He was arrested at Tuas Avenue 9 at about 1.30pm on June 7.
Preliminary investigations found that the suspect is believed to be involved in other similar robbery cases in the vicinity of Outram Road. The suspect will be charged in court on June 9 with armed robbery. If convicted, he can be sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Acting Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Adrian Quek commended his officers for their excellent investigative follow-up. He stressed that Police will spare no efforts to track down the perpetrators of such crimes and bring them to justice. - CNA /ls
