SINGAPORE: The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) seized some 10,000 midazolam sleeping pills which were illegally imported without a licence.
They were seized in an operation in Woodlands on July 26, following an alert from ICA's Air Cargo Command.
A middle-aged Singaporean man has been arrested in connection with this case.
He admitted to having assisted an unidentified China national to import the pills illegally for monetary gains.
Midazolam is a controlled substance under the Posions Act.
It affects a person's mental activity and behaviour and also alters a person's mood.
It may induce memory loss, as well as low blood pressure, visual disturbances, headaches, loss of muscular coordination and confusion.
Anyone convicted under the Poisons Act faces a fine of up to S$10,000 and a jail term of up to two years.
