By Associated Press,

HELSINKI — A shipment of 69 surface-to-air missiles impounded by Finnish authorities was a legitimate delivery from Germany to South Korea, a German official said Thursday.

The announcement came after Finnish authorities seized the Patriot missiles and 160 tons of explosives on a British-registered cargo ship and detained two Ukrainian crew members on suspicion of violating weapons export laws.

Police said the missiles didn’t have the right transit documents and the explosive picric acid wasn’t properly stored on the M/S Thor Liberty, which docked in Kotka, southern Finland, on Dec. 15.

A spokesman for Germany’s Defense Ministry said the missiles were an official shipment that was fully declared and had all necessary clearings from German authorities.

“Those patriot guided missiles are from the Bundeswehr’s stocks and have been shipped to South Korea” according to an intergovernmental treaty, he said, declining to be named in line with government policy.

He said no explosives were part of the shipment and he didn’t have any information on that part of the impounded cargo.

Finnish officials said the explosives were destined for China. Markku Koskinen, the director of traffic operations at the port of Kotka, said they were deficiently packed in wooden boxes on open pallets and would be moved to metal containers in line with rules on the maritime transport of explosives.

“We will do that as soon as the customs inspectors allow us to,” Koskinen told The Associated Press. “Otherwise, the shipment of explosives was legitimate and can continue on its way to China as soon as it’s safely packed.”

The ship sailed from the north German port of Emden on Dec. 13 and was en route to China, Finnish officials said. It docked in Kotka to pick up a cargo of anchor chains and an old paper machine.

Finnish officials impounded the cargo Wednesday and launched an investigation. Detective Superintendent Timo Virtanen said the ship’s captain and first mate were detained.

“The missiles did not have the appropriate transit papers,” Virtanen said. “We are questioning all the other 11 crew members who are also Ukrainians.”

Klaus Kaartinen, spokesman for the National Bureau of Investigation, said Finnish police and customs would continue their investigation into the cargo.

“Even if the missile cargo is a legitimate shipment, from a Finnish point of view the law has probably been broken because it was not properly declared,” Kaartinen said. “Also, the explosives were stored improperly.”

American-made Patriot missiles are used to counter threats, including aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. They are part of the U.S. Army’s weaponry and were extensively used during the 1991 Gulf war.

Manufactured by Raytheon and Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Florida, Patriot missiles have been in service in several countries, including Egypt, Germany, Greece, Israel, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan and South Korea.

Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

(Dow Jones)--The Danish-owned cargo ship loaded with 69 surface-to-air missiles lacked necessary paperwork to go through Finland, according to the Finland's National Bureau of Investigation.

On Thursday, Finland's National Bureau of Investigation said it had detained two Ukrainian citizens, suspected of illegal transit shipping of weaponry after customs officials found 69 Patriot surface-to-air missiles and some 160 tons of explosives aboard Danish-owned MS Thor Liberty, sent from Germany and bound for South Korea.

"One needs permission from Finland's Ministry of Defence to travel to or through Finland with military equipment," Timo Virtanen, detective chief superintendent at the National Bureau of Investigation, said. "This vessel lacked necessary paperwork, which is a violation against Finland's law on export of military goods and can potentially give up to four years of imprisonment," he added.

According to Virtanen, the ship came to Finland to pick up anchor chain and paper making equipment. Finnish customs seized the cargo ship in the harbor of Kotka, about 120 kilometers east of Helsinki, on Wednesday and the Finnish Armed Forces have transferred the missiles to a safe location.

No government permission is needed with regards to the 160 tonnes of explosives on board the cargo ship. However, Virtanen said the explosives weren't loaded according to Finnish regulations and thus have to be removed and reloaded.

Earlier, a German defense ministry spokesman confirmed that the shipment of missiles are from German military stockpiles and were en route to South Korea. The spokesperson said the missiles were sold legally with all requisite legal and customs documentation.

Two Ukrainian citizens, the captain and the second in command at MS Thor Liberty, are still being detained on board the cargo vessel and will be unable to leave Finland, awaiting a decision by Finnish prosecutors on legal proceedings.

"We have also requested legal assistance from the various countries involved in this case," Virtanen said.

Us bomb the chinese embasy in Belgrade back in 99 and all China can do is talk loudly on the phone. Screw China and all it's lame talk.

Re: Bankrupt Germany sold 69 Karanguni Patriot missiles to frightened Koreans - Finla

If we setup an embassy bombing competition and test which of US or PRC can it better I think PRC will stand laughing and USA shit & pee in pants.

Very simple toss coin to decide who start 1st and then they will bomb 1 embassy of each other at a time, continue until one of them stop at where they can not take it.

Simply embassies bombed away is very big hurt to USA and it is nothing at all to PRC. It is just an office with some low rank employees to PRC which they have plenty.;)

PRC military instalations easy to detect. How many cities in China compared to the 50 states in US. China got Beijing and Shanghai to Bomb and thats it. Keep dreaming la.

In a war China gonna loose big time as most of their cuntry is the desert and coastal cities. Same like OZ. LKY once said US hard to beat economically also with the different cities in the states holding their own in terms of diverse businesses.

That is where you are completely wrong.

PRC mixed military with civilian installation. US installations are very clear to tell even via google maps.

To target US however, I would prefer to target civilian directly and have the military left alone :D because that is the most effective against US. May be the best part is the state & military commands don't declare war at all. Let the civilian militants attack US civilians. That is the same as in Korean War & Vietnam Wars that PRC did not declare war with US and only sent people's volunteers & sponsor weapons to the wars. Very effective.;)

What help were the firearms during 911?

Re: Bankrupt Germany sold 69 Karanguni Patriot missiles to frightened Koreans - Finla

What help were the firearms during 911?

US civilian firearms are only for shooting each other e.g. in their own universities or schools or shoot out against their own cops or FBI.

Gunman wore Santa costume for Texas murder-suicide

 • From: NewsCore
 • December 27, 2011 6:35AM

A GUNMAN who shot dead six family members inside a Texas apartment on Christmas morning was reportedly dressed as Santa Claus as he carried out the suspected murder-suicide.

The seven people were found dead shortly after unwrapping Christmas gifts inside the first-floor apartment in Grapevine, north-west of Dallas.
Two weapons were found at the scene and police believe the gunman shot himself after slaughtering the four women and three men, aged from 18 to 60.
Law enforcement sources said he was dressed in a festive Santa outfit as he carried out the massacre, both KXAS-TV and The Dallas Morning News reported.
Police said the victims were related by blood or marriage but did not all live at the murder scene. Investigators have identified all seven but are waiting for medical examiners to confirm the identities and notify family members.

Police also said the shooter did not appear to live at the apartment.
Two of the female victims and one male victim were aged from 18 to 20, police told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The other two women were older, and the two other men, including the suspected gunmen, were over 50, the newspaper said.
Grapevine police Sgt. Robert Eberling called it "a tragic situation," and one of the most gruesome crimes in Grapevine history. The Dallas suburb is about 32km from downtown and known to be a quiet, middle-class community.
The seven bodies were found in the common areas of the property after police received a 911 call from the apartment complex at 11:30am local time Sunday. There was nobody at the other end of the call.
The front-door of the apartment was locked when law enforcement arrived. After forcing their way inside, officers found "seven victims, all deceased," Sgt Eberling said in a brief written statement.
Neighbours at the well-maintained suburban apartment complex did not report hearing any gunshots during the killing spree however The Star-Telegram said many of the nearby apartments were vacant.
Locals told KDFW-TV that police had visited the complex before but said the family kept to themselves.

Gunman in Santa suit killed family opening gifts, police suspect

December 27, 2011 - 4:48AM

Police in Texas say the man they believe is responsible for a Christmas Day shooting that left him and six members of his extended family dead was dressed as Santa Claus.
Grapevine police spokesman Sergeant Robert Eberling said the shooter "showed up shortly before the incident took place" in the Santa outfit and was a member of the family opening gifts in the apartment.
Police went to the apartment on Sunday after dispatchers received a phone call in which no one was on the line. They found four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, dead.

A Texas man dressed as Santa Claus appears to have opened fire on his own family and then killed himself, leaving seven dead amid a pile of presents on Christmas Day.

Police believe the man showed up as the family was opening gifts, according to MSNBC. Authorities got a 911 call from the apartment Sunday morning but heard only silence on the line. When they showed up, they found four women and three men, all dead.

The slaughter happened in Grapevine, a Dallas suburb that was recently deemed the state’s “Christmas Capital” for its numerous holiday-season festivals.

The victims were two couples in their fifties and three young adults, ages 22, 19, and 17, police said. All of them appeared to be related. Their identities were scheduled to be released following autopsies Monday.

Even Japan could not conquer China in WW2 ...US cannot even settle Vietnam (sorry, half of Vietnam).

No, China won't lose a war, even if US launch nuclear...they will still be there - bcos of the size.

US is wearing a pants full of ants, just a 911 - a handful of terrorists wielding nothing more than a bazooka and AK can cause them nightmares and bad dreams for nearly a decade.

And not counting the zillion of dollars sunk into security upgrades...effectively, against a faceless enemy, how can you defend?

The new warefare, is now sneak attacks that don't necessarily paralyse you but cause you so much irritation that you cannot realistically live well - basically, to drive you nuts.

USA is gradually going towards another massive slaughtering civil war to kill only themselves big time. The signs are obvious, ethnic racial religious and faith divisions and struggles within, the huge rich-poor gap and economic stress. The drugs and guns and gang problems. The internal terrorism e.g Oklahoma city bombing & NY sniper terror. Then the kids shoot up schools the Santa shoot own family members etc. USA is alike the Manchurian Qing Dynasty which rot on Opium and slaying each other while all the enemies are awaiting to invade from outside 八国联军 & 日本皇军 etc. Today USA's drugs are more complicated then opium, enemies are stronger and in larger numbers than the Chinese Qing Dynasty. Similar with Manchurians the Americans are left with no friends or very weak friends but many many strong enemies. As foreign enemies invades e.g. 911 the Americans will be busy fighting their own civil war just like the Chinese KMT + CCP during WW2. American civilians have more guns than their military no police can ever stop them.:D
