Thais Demonstrat a brand new form of Political Movement

The Thai people had evolved from Junta's military coups and street war between troops of different generals, to massive crowded campaigns which are peaceful in large majority. They are well organized and massive, the majority are peaceful, and only in small portions of time in their months long campaign that violence could be found.

In a way, their style can be comparable with Taiwanese Blue / Green / Red camps' movements. That the people's devotion and commitment and resolve are clearly demonstrated to the world. Regardless which faction they came from, they all showed their political passions and patriotism.

It is clear that for these people taking care of their families and works and livelihoods are not the overriding priorities. In Bangkok tens of thousands are gathering in rotation each day, that at any one moment, at least 15 thousand PADs are holding the Government Houses. In very short notice they could gather over hundred thousand supporters or call in any resources or supplies within very short notice. These are provided by their people voluntarily.

During our tiny 72hrs stand off at Speakers Corner, the Singaporeans similarly had came during day and night to support and supply us. Food & drinks and all sorts of helps kept coming. But our scale is still too limited in this red dot.

RAJAMANGALA RALLY
Thaksin 'plans taped message'

Plans for live speech reportedly cancelled

Ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra is understood to have turned to a pre-recorded message aimed at hyping up tens of thousands of his supporters expected to show up today at Bangkok's Rajamangala Stadium.
Previously, Thaksin planned to phone in from overseas for a live speech to his audience. However, this was reportedly cancelled out of fear of worsening the political situation.

Government sources said Thaksin arrived in Hong Kong yesterday, where he will record an eight-minute message for today's gathering of his supporters.

Thaksin's message is expected to be softer than his previous remarks, playing the middle ground in the ongoing political conflict with emphasis on national reconciliation and loyalty to the monarchy.

Previously, the military voiced strong opposition to his plan for a live address.

Chaowarin Latthasaksiri, a government MP, said yesterday that Thaksin was in Dubai prior to his arrival in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, both anti- and pro-government groups started to reach Bangkok from various parts of the country.

The Phichit chapter of the People's Alliance for Democracy said PAD-led crowds from the North would surge at Government House in order to counter the pro-government rally at Rajamangala Stadium.

The PAD's Nakhon Ratchasima chapter has also stepped up its mobilisation of people from the Northeast to travel to the capital.

Organisers of the pro-government rally have started dispatching convoys to transport their people from the Northeast, seen as the stronghold of the main coalition partner, the People Power Party.

Rajamangala Stadium can accommodate 70,000 people and today's crowd might surge to around 100,000.

Army chief General Anupong Paochinda has ordered close monitoring of the situation with the aim of preventing the opposing factions from clashing, said Army spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnoed.

Sansern said soldiers were on the standby to assist the police in keeping the peace.

Despite reports to the contrary, People Power Party MP and event organiser Jatuporn Prompan said Thaksin's phone-in plans remained unchanged and he would address his supporters at 8pm today.

"Thaksin is free to speak out and will not be restricted by topics and time constraints," Jatuporn said.

He said he anticipated Thaksin would begin his speech by rousing the crowd with an anti-coup message and sharing his thoughts on global economic volatility, before moving on to any topic of his choice.

He said he did not know from which location Thaksin would make his telephone call. There has been speculation that the ousted premier flew from London to Hong Kong via Dubai for the phone-in session.

The rally - billed as the mobile event of the "Today's Truth" talk show aired by NBT Channel - will begin at 3pm and is expected to conclude around 10pm. Key speakers are scheduled to address the crowds from 5.30pm as a forerunner to Thaksin's phone-in, which is billed as the main attraction.

The event will be taped and highlights will be broadcast during the NBT talk show on week nights.

does not change a thing look at thailand now:cool:

Thailand changed and things are different. You are can not measure Thailand's changes with Singaporeans' dreams and desires, because that is not what the Thais fight to change their country towards.

I dun see what PAD is a new form of political movement, more like a new form of political hooliganism, disrupting the lives of normal thais, pulling down the ecomony and yet have no respect for the overall democracy process that had took place.

i m sure none of the leading PAD members care abt what thais from other parts of thailand feels.

You may call it any name, but it is unlike anything else that we had ever seen.

It is the most effective ever disruption to an unwanted regime without a military coupe.

Who can explain if Thaksin is so hated by so many, why did he still win the elections time after time?

There will definitely be people who detest him. But he did something right. To make majority of people still vote for him.
That is something which the opposition cannot succeed in. That is the opposition's incompetency. If not Thaksin would be forgotten and people will elect the opposition in and let them run the govt. Meanwhile, Thaksin's support is still very strong.

So what if he is corrupted? He helped the rural poor, make their lives better. This is something which the middle class will never understand.

The explanation is this:

SHARP & DRAMATICALLY EFFECTIVE policies arise in STRONG Controversies, resulting in some to be strongly supportive and some others strongly opposing.

Thug-Sin's policy is effective to bring him up as PM and a political power in the fast lane. He effectively bought the rural peasants' vote and use that to control national political power, so that he can exploit and monopolize key businesses in the capital. Resulting those non-peasants within the capital to hate him and see him as evil.

From my perspective Thug-Sin is a character of greed in terms of both power & money. The mechanism of his scheme is to 1st give the simple rural peasants some honey and play nice kind leader, exploiting these peasants' votes to capitalize in Bangkok for billions & billion into his own family business Shinawatra Corp (partner of Temasek) & his cronies' businesses.

Again, his tactic is very effective and his goals were reached quickly, and strengthen fast like LKy's PAp during the early years. That is why PAD & even the king had been forced to take drastic measures to stop him.

We have got famiLEE LEEgime today, because our fathers & Barisn Socialists didn't do enough to stop LKy the old dog thief in the early days. :(

Thais are paying the price (heavy of course) to stop Thailand from becoming a Shinawatra-LEEgime in the future. It is in my view very very worthwhile. If they don't pay the price in this short term, they will have to pay much much much much more in the longer term later like what Singaporeans are now in, and had to pay another even higher price later to overthrow the Shinawatra-LEEgime at later time (too late).

By then Shinawatra Corp will become the Thai Temasek. Thug-Sin will become Thai old dog thief, Shinawatra-family will become famiLEE , the royal will become just another prata, TRT party will become PAp, Thai people will all be poor slaves serving the TRT party cronies, and Thug-Sin and crones will be Richer than famiLEE cronies.

Thais are smarter then Singaporeans, they selected to pay the (relatively) smaller price right now. I wish them well and success.
:)

You can take your pick, either you want this or the rolling the tanks on the road - may be you can decorate tanks with flowers and call it a friendly smiling bloodless coup.

For me, I think what the PAD is doing is much more honorable because they are being very honest & open. The so called bloodless coup is not as effective - otherwise Thug-Sin's camp wouldn't make their comeback again immediately, and PAD won't have to do what they are now doing.:p

In most religion & culture blood is 'dirty' but in politics it is a very effective detergent (very expensive though), that it can make very clean political changes.:rolleyes::D;) If the oust Thug-sin coup had involved sufficient blood, Thug-sin will cease to be a problem once and for all.:p

Thug-Sin's situation is alike Ferdinand Marcos, ousted and exiled by People's Power. The difference is Marcos wasn't able to cause troubles from Honolulu to Manila, but Thug-Sin from London is still able to stir big shits.

Thailand is now divided into Yellow (PAD) & Red (Thug-Sin) camps much alike Taiwanese Blue Green & Red camps. This will last for at least 1 or 2 decades.

Without any disrespect, Mr JBJ's way is very noble but ineffective. He can fight like hell to pay LKy $$$ & get into parliament many rounds, and still that old dog thief will easily kick him out. If he can not abuse defamation suit any longer, he could invent (crap out) another filthy trick via his ass. I support JBJ because of his determinations & resolve but I will not adopt his methods. I refuse to hold democracy & human right flags simply because they will be heavy burdens although they are noble.;)

this show that they are really open and democratic but on the other hands, the economic is already so bad,so these will discourage those potential investors.

Then, what is your agenda?

What else can one expect from an agent provocateur like you? Why blame the mass-based Barisan Sosialis for the atrocities committed by the British colonialists, Tunku the Malay aristocrat and their coward lackey Harry Lee?

It is undeniable that Thaksin took a lot of care on the rural poor.
But which past Prime Minister did that to the poor to help them make their lives better? None.
They were all busy helping their ownselves to make more money.
Just take a look at PAD. They are simply ignoring the rural poor as they consist mostly of the middle class and mostly from bangkok. If they get what they want and reach their agenda, the rural poor will be back to square one. The leader that PAD wants to lead the country, will ignore the rural poor, and yet still help himself to making more money.

In a country said to be democratic, every vote counts. Whether you stay in rural or urban, high class, middle-class, low class, your vote counts as 1.

Greed, who does not have? If you are in Thaksin position, you would do that too.

And why is that so?

What a crock. PAD have hijacked thai democracy by being contemptuous of the majority thai peasants right to vote. Moreover it is clear that PAD is being manipulated by the King, the army and the thai elites. Thaksin is no saint but neither are those controlling and manipulating PAD.

Thailand changed and things are different. You are can not measure Thailand's changes with Singaporeans' dreams and desires, because that is not what the Thais fight to change their country towards.

Perhaps, but how has this helped Thailand and more importantly the majority thai peasants?

You may call it any name, but it is unlike anything else that we had ever seen.

It is the most effective ever disruption to an unwanted regime without a military coupe.

It is clear that you have never lived in Thailand for a considerable period of time both pre Thaksin, Thaksin and post Thaksin eras.

Which Thais are now paying the real heavy price? And prior to Thaksin's rule did the thai elites truly help the majority thai peasants?

Thais "smarter than Singaporeans", don't make me laugh. More like the thai elites and bangkok middle classes not forgetting the king and army elites being selfish and only interested in looking after their own interests.

The explanation is this:

Thais are paying the price (heavy of course) to stop Thailand from becoming a Shinawatra-LEEgime in the future. It is in my view very very worthwhile. i come to this forum everyday and look at so many political wannabes thinking 'they can do better'

give me a break

thaksin "exploit" ? HOW DARE YOU say such words. Thaksin did as much good as he did which you term 'vile and evil'...of cos some ppl only choose to read WHAT THEY WANT ;) Do you speak for the Thais? Are YOU isinuating what the Thais really want? How many Thai ppl do YOU know 2 make such statment...5 or 5million?

Excerpts from Bangkokpost.com
http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/breakingnews.php?id=131772

He told the crowd that he is a former prime minister with the most votes in Thai history who faced assassination attempts and had been ousted by a coup when public members were praising his government. The coup of September 19, 2006 aimed to deal with only one person, he added.

He indeed won the most votes, landslide victory, not once, but twice and numerous if you count the number of re-elections that the country has held.

People only remember the bad he did.
When Thaksin was implementing the medical help to the poor, something like a scheme ( i can't remember the detail), was it harmful?

When Thaksin implemented schemes to help the poor peasants in rural areas, these peasants starts to have better knowledge on the biz aspect of how much their crops can fetch. Increase their income potential.

When Thaksin crack down on drugs, did it help? Without these, the young in thailand are exposed to drugs easily. Even the mafia then had a price tag on Thaksin's head, because Thaksin was hurting their business. His high-handed manner on drugs had more than a thousand dead. But if drugs are continued, more than the thousand dead would be affected. Families broken up due to drugs. More social problems.

So what if Thaksin is corrupted? Tell me which Prime Minister is not corrupted and yet going to help the people?

Yeah and pigs shall fly:rolleyes:
For me, I think what the PAD is doing is much more honorable because they are being very honest & open.

Again you are talking through your arse. Has the Philippines truly progressed and provided a reasonable standard of living for its majority peasants since Edsa I in 86'? All the Philippines has seen since the fall of Marcos 22 years ago is a change of power amongst the corrupt Filippino elites, with the Filippino majority peasants still getting shafted. Even after Edsa II and the fall of Estrada in 01' what has happened for the majority Filippino peasants? In the main, nothing still same old shit.
Thug-Sin's situation is alike Ferdinand Marcos, ousted and exiled by People's Power. The difference is Marcos wasn't able to cause troubles from Honolulu to Manila, but Thug-Sin from London is still able to stir big shits.
Thailand cannot make the fundamental changes untyil and unless the monarchy, the army elites and biz elites/bangkok middle classes are prepared to relatively honestly and in goodfaith share power and fair equity with the majority thai peasants.

Thailand is now divided into Yellow (PAD) & Red (Thug-Sin) camps much alike Taiwanese Blue Green & Red camps. This will last for at least 1 or 2 decades..

Yeah and how many Singaporeans take you seriously?
