Model of Iskandar Malaysia

SINGAPORE : Raffles Education Corp, through its whole-owned Malaysian subsidiary, has signed a joint venture agreement with Education@Iskandar to establish Raffles University Iskandar in Malaysia's southern state of Johor.

The self-accrediting university will begin operations in October this year out of its leased premises at Kota Raya, Johor Bahru, while its permanent campus in EduCity@Iskandar is being built.

The 65-acre multi-facility campus is expected to be ready by 2013.

The school will join several other educational institutions in Malaysia's southern development corridor, such as the Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia, the Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology, and the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus.

The new university will be 80 per cent held by Raffles Education Corp and 20 per cent by Education Iskandar, which will be responsible for the development and operations of the university.

Both companies will put in approximately S$82 million into the project.

The school is expected to enrol up to 5,000 students in its first five years of operations.

It will initially provide undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in three faculties - Business, Design & Art, and Education & Social Sciences.

Two more faculties - Health Sciences and Technology - will be added later.

Raffles Education Corp is the largest private education provider in the Asia-Pacific region.

Raffles University Iskandar?

What a screwed up name! Reminds me of some people who wear western suits as well as a sarong over their pants!

This is a good development. The name of Raffles the well-meaning freemason to be used for education purposes should spread far and wide, and not just be confined to Singapore.

raffles has already got an established arts college in kl or many years now. students all wear fancy dress everyday, not the nerdy types.
this hopefully will keep many teenagers to study locally instead of flying off to various exotic overseas location and make the environment more vibrant.

this public-listed counter is very jialat!

it has jus consolidated 5 shares into 1 with current trading price of about 58c which means divided that by 5, it's post-consolidated prices is only about 12c.

b4 consolidating, the prices were trading at about 30c. their directors esp the MD n wifey were mopping up million of shares at an average price of about 28c. price trading now at 58c means big time losses for those directors who were mopping up.

then what's the meaning of all this? something not right here!

Ya great! So long as Raffles Education Group is not misrepresenting the public. They're just riding on the fame and glory that the 3 Raffles schools have built.

It's really very confusing la. Raffles Institution, Raffles Girls'School, Raffles Junior College, Raffles College - all so famous and reputable for quality students and quality education but now having to share their "Raffles Education" with a fake Raffles University, Raffles Institute of Higher Learning, Raffles College of Higher Education blah blah blah. These days when registering 2 business entities with almost similar names is so difficult, how come this Raffles Education Group could get away with it? Seems fishy la. Wonder why all old Raffles students are keeping so quiet about it. What if some day, an old Raffles Alumnus is formed by the students of all these fake Raffles schools. Wouldn't there be more confusion?

Nothing wrong as far as business is concerned but using "people's backside as their face"is not so good la. Why use the names of already famous schools to gain a foothold. Many dumbers in matland might think that they would be really getting a good "Raffles education" like those who went through RI and RGS.
