..Las Vegas Sands was one of two gaming companies that won the right to build casinos in Singapore after the city state lifted a four-decade ban on them in 2005, to diversify the economy and create jobs.

The company said last week it faces "substantial doubt" about its ability to survive and may be short of cash for US$16 billion of projects in Asia....

As the Chinese proverb goes "bing dong san che fei yi ri zhi han" (It takes more than one cold day for the river to freeze three feet deep).

Surely, there must have been bad financial background that led Las Vegas Sands to the prospect of having default on debt and face bankruptcy.

Who granted them the right? Which million-dollar elite (or elites) that awarded the right to the Sands? What kind of study have they carried out before awarding the right to the Sands? Will they be answerable to their wrong decision? Or they would continue receiving their million-dollar salary plus fat bonuses?

Shame, shame.. Before the Genting was developed, all it took was for one shrewd businessman Lim Goh Tong and few helpers to climb the mountain by foot, armed with parang to ward off possible attacks by wild animals. The shrewd businessman carried out his appreciation of the situation on top of the virgin mountain and decided that it was a viable project to build a casino there. Look at the Genting empire built by him.

Lim Goh Tong is not a university graduate, not a scholar. What he possessed was a shrewd business sense which our highly educated elites do not possess. And yet they are given heavy responsibility to make big business deision..?

Who is to blame for the hopeless mess now?

Aiyah, all along the same line. He is ex-carpenter, like the ABC milkman and the LVStaxi-driver. They share common humble backgrounds like postman Ponzi. At least, Lim still standing.

While I am in general agreement with your views in this post, I would like to correct your perception of Lim Goh Tong coming up with the casino idea when he climbed Gentings. No, he did not conceive the idea of a casino then. He wanted to transform Gentings into an exclusive hilltop retreat for the rich.

It was only later when the idea of a casino came to his mind. However, what was inspirational and extraordinary about Lim was that he surmounted all obstacles step by step and yet had retain the vision of making the project happen, which he did finally.

Why should Singapore government be ashamed? Even if Sands were to abandon the project, they have already paid so much to the government. Singapore is already a winner!

If Sands can make it, it would be good for one of our GLC to take over. It would be good if Temasek can take over - then Ho Ching can be the Chairman. Knowing that Ho Ching is on the losing streak all these while, all of us who step into the casino would be huat ah!

Singapore's relationship with sand is unfruitful. Previously Malaysia/Indonesia banned Spore sand sales. Now Sands are pulling out of Singapore.

Yes it's the CURSES OF THE IRs.

Casinos are a SIN.

The decision of allowing the IRs to operate in Singapore have already brought bad luck to those that made the decision to allow them in Singapore.

CASINOs should never be allowed in Singapore.

There are too many exploitations of human weaknesses wherever Casinos operate.

Really really hope both IRs do not take off.

The CONs outweigh the PROs.

Heard the Marina IR 3 Tombstones was built exactly like tomstones to "buang sway for the decision makers.

Unfortunately, the damming of Marina Barrage (which is the Dragon's Mouth) made the dragon hopping mad....cannot eat cannot drink.....akin to stuffing cotton wool down someone's throat.

The 3 tombstones once completed will bring extreme curses to the decision makers and their families. Already, some of it is already evidentally in play at present.

THEY SHOULD SACK THE "FENG SUI" PEOPLE THAT ADVISED THEM ON THIS.

Or if you don't believe in the mambo jambo world of "feng sui", then it is we have complete IDIOTS making decisions for this country at present.

If Temasek and GIC takes over, and with their so-called expertise and experience- which amounts to none in IR management- then these IRs are also going down the Fantasy Island route to oblivion.

If so, they are postponing the inevitable. Their records after all show that they don't and can't learn from their mistakes.

I suspect it has something to do with the bad fengshui. When I saw the 3 "tablets" which stood blocking Singapore financial hub skyline, I thought ill of it.

I don't believe in feng shui but I believe we have complete IDIOTS making very megabad decisions for the nation.
What's worst is these IDIOTS are paid millions with our money.

I believe in fengshui.

Operating a gambling den is actually something quite evil.

Those who have been to casino in Macau would have noticed that there is a big tiger head with its mouth widely opened mounted on top of the main entrance to the casino. It looks weird and gives people an eerie feeling. Every gambler would need to go through the entrance before entering the casino - bi si wu yi (必死无疑). And the operator would "bao jia" (包吃).

Generally, dealers employed by casino would have to comply with a set of rules. Among other things, they are not allowed to enter the casino where they worked within the 1st 12 months after their resignation..

Do you not think running a gambling den is something very evil..?

Unfortunately, our decision makers already "bei qian chong hun le tou nao" (被钱冲昏了头脑) - They have lost their orientation because of their greed for $$$..

Wonder what they will place in the IRs here.

Every casino also have "funny" things placed here, there and everywhere.

Saw a HK talk show on Genting Highlands a few months back. Supposedly, those reporters were doing an 'expose' and spoke about certain rooms in the casino hotel have real corpses between the matresses and floor of certain rooms to ensure "winnings".

Wah lau! Dont know real or not but scary though.
