SINGAPORE: Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan said he has a substantive agenda to further enhance Singapore healthcare over the next five years.

Writing in his blog, Mr Khaw has pledged that good hospital care will be within 30 minutes of every patient.

Detailing his Health Manifesto, Mr Khaw said this would be possible with a general hospital in every region in Singapore - Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in the north, Tan Tock Seng Hospital in the central, Changi General Hospital in the east, Ng Teng Fong Hospital in the west and Sengkang General Hospital for the North East.

He also aims to track Singapore's morbidity indicators and get them to match the top tier of OECD countries in the key disease areas such as heart disease, diabetes, mental disorders and cancer.

Currently, Singapore's indicators are about average, among the OECD countries.

Polyclinics will also be redeveloped and upgraded.

A new polyclinic is planned for the rapidly expanding population in Punggol.

Long term care will be transformed to benefit the elderly with chronic diseases, so that they can have a good quality of life.

To help Singaporeans stay healthy, Mr Khaw said his ministry will help Singaporeans go for regular health checks.

Medisave will be expanded to cover mammograms and colonoscopies.

Mr Khaw said keeping Singaporeans healthy requires a strong community spirit.

Through the S$1 billion Community Silver Trust, he hopes to inspire successful Singaporeans to come forward to co-develop the long term care sector.

Mr Khaw also pledged to keep healthcare affordable.

This asshole promised during last election campaigning not to implement means testing at hospitals.

Once election over he implemented it straight away.

It is already affordable. He went for a bypass for $8 I only paid about a hundred for their screwup in removing 4 sitches. The next time he will only pay 60 cents. Cheaper than a cup of coffee. That's affordable. As for us, forget about it. We have to pay more to maintain his salary and medical expenses. Like what the folks say,"can die, cannot be sick!"

Its only a pledge lah, politician lingo for non binding. No targets set, no consequences, etc. he is just bullshitting as usual. If he had said "I promised to reduce the cost of healthcare by 20% within 2 years, or I will resign my position as Minister of Health", than that is something real. That is a statement that a singaporean can respect. His last sentence is a lie right away anyway. How can he pledge to keep healthcare affordable, when it already ISN'T? Makes sense or not?

Last few year we all can see medical cost almost double. The more he talk/plan the more cost increase.
