A MAN who had consensual sex with his 20-year-old daughter was jailed for three years on Monday.

The 47-year-old freelance plumber admitted to the incest at the master bedroom of his flat in April 2008. The parties cannot be named as there is a gag order.

The daughter, now 23, was initially charged in March last year but was later given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal. The accused had failed to turn up and the court issued a warrant for his arrest.

The court heard that he had been bringing his daughter for drinking sessions with his friends at coffeeshops since 2006. As they spent more time together, they became emotionally closer, and eventually, this developed into a sexual relationship.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Leong Wing Tuck said on one night in April 2008, both returned home after a beer drinking session. The accused's wife was not at home.

While the accused was lying in bed, a small argument broke out between them when she showed little interest in talking to him as she was busy checking her e-mails on the laptop computer at the edge of the bed.

She apologised, and he asked her for a hug. They began caressing each other. They then had sex. A week later, they had a heated argument over the issue of her furthering her studies. She then texted a friend to call the police, who arrested him.

SINGAPORE : A 47-year-old plumber was jailed for three years for having sex with his own daughter in what's believed to be the country's first consensual incest case.

He cannot be named to protect the woman's identity.

The plumber started bringing his then 19-year-old daughter along when he went drinking with his friends at coffeeshops in 2006.

The pair became close and this later developed into a sexual relationship.

But in early 2008, the daughter told her close friend that her father had been sexually touching her for some time and she did not like it.

The court heard that the pair had sexual intercourse again in their flat April 2008.

Shortly after this, the woman became worried that her own father could have impregnated her.

The pair had a heated argument about a separate matter later that month and the daughter sent her close friend a text message asking her to call the police.

The friend complied, telling the authorities that the plumber was abusing his daughter again.

When officers arrived at their flat, the woman alleged that her father had molested her and he was placed under arrest.

The daughter had also been charged with incest but she was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on September 7 last year.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Leong Wing Tuck told the court on Monday that the charge against her will be revived.

Those convicted of incest can be jailed up to five years.

SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old woman has been placed on probation of one year for having sex with her own father, in what is believed to be Singapore's first consensual incest case.

The woman, who's now living with her maternal aunt, has also been ordered to undergo therapy sessions with a psychiatrist.

For the same offence, her father, who was a plumber, was sentenced to three years' jail in January last year.

Both cannot be named to protect the woman's identity.

The court heard that she and her father had been drinking at coffeeshops with his friends since 2006.

This developed into a sexual relationship which saw the woman, who was then 20 years old, kissing and hugging her father.

Their physical intimacy escalated to touching each others' private parts when they were alone at home.

They eventually had sex about two years later - in April 2008 - after a drinking session.

On that night, both father and daughter were in the bedroom when an argument broke out between them.

She apologised and gave her father a hug at his request.

They then undressed, and engaged in petting and kissing.

The father became sexually aroused and had sex with his daughter with her consent.

The court heard that the woman was afraid that her father may have impregnated her.

The pair again had another argument over a separate matter about a week later.

The woman then sent an SMS to her close friend to contact the police.

She told her friend that her father had been sexually touching her for some time and that she did not like it.

Her friend then made a police report that the woman's father was abusing her.

When police officers arrived at the flat, the woman alleged that her father had molested her, leading to his arrest.

Those convicted of incest can be jailed up to five years.
